Bio

Dr. Zachary Webb is a freelance percussionist and music educator who currently resides in Daphne, Alabama. Dr. Webb serves as an Adjunct Instructor of Music at the University of Mobile. He regularly performs with numerous orchestras throughout the Gulf Coast, including the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Mobile Opera, Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of the percussion trio Three by Radio 3(r).

Although classically trained, Dr. Webb’s musical interests fall over a vast spectrum, including contemporary art music, popular music, and various world drumming styles. He has performed at the Atlantic Music Festival (Contemporary Ensemble), the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, the Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention, the McCormick Marimba Festival, the Panama Day of Percussion, and the Cincinnati Percussion Festival. In addition, he has performed with the new music groups Bent Frequency, Freeform Percussion, and as a member of The Hartt School’s Performance 20/20.

As an educator, Dr. Webb previously taught at the University of South Alabama as the Interim Instructor of Percussion and the University of North Alabama as an Adjunct Instructor of Percussion. He is currently Director of Percussion Activities at Daphne High School where he works with the marching band, symphonic band, concert band, and percussion ensemble.

Dr. Webb holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, an Artist’s Certificate from Georgia State University, a Master of Music degree from the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music and Dance, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of South Alabama. His primary percussion teachers have included Jim Culley, Allen Otte, Dr. Stuart Gerber, Charles Settle, Ben Toth, and Dr. Michael Sammons. Dr. Webb has also studied a wide variety of world percussion instruments with Dr. Stefan Fiol (Himalayan Music), James Feist (Tabla), Russell Burge (Jazz Vibraphone/Steel Pans), Joe Galeota (Ghanaian Drumming), John Amira (Cuban/Haitian Drumming), Rogerio Boccatto (Brazilian Drumming), and Ben Toth (Steel Pan).
