Bio

Dr. Kathryn Hedlund serves as Associate Professor of Music, Chair of Graduate Studies, and Director of Vocal Studies at the University of Mobile.  Dr. Hedlund is in her twelfth year of college teaching, and specializes in the areas of Vocal Pedagogy and Diction.  She is a training member of Alexander Technique International, working towards teacher certification.  Dr. Hedlund has given workshops and adjudicated for area high schools, universities, and choral festivals, and is a passionate educator and mentor for up-and-coming singers and voice teachers.  Recent performances include recitals and concerts in the Mobile area, representing Mobile Opera with Mobile Ballet in Eclectic, multiple area performances of Jake Heggie’s Holocaust works Another Sunrise and Farewell Auschwitz, NATS Artist Awards National Semifinals in Chicago,IL, Mobile Opera’s Winter Gala Concerts, La Ciesca in Mobile Opera’s Gianni Schicchi, and frequent guest solo appearances with the Eastern Shore Choral Society.  Favorite past roles include Marguerite in Faust with Opéra Louisiane, and Violetta in La Traviata with LSU Opera.  Dr. Hedlund holds degrees from the University of Michigan and LSU, and was a three time regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.  She resides in Mobile with her husband Ryan and two children, Theo and Anna.
