The Caucasian Chalk Circle
Amidst the ruins of a village decimated by the Second World War, members of two Cooperative Farms battle to over the lush valley they each knew to be their home at one time. The valley had once belonged to one farm forced to vacate at the onset of the war and then assigned to the other. Each farm presents their petition to the delegation of the property which only leads to a stalemate between the two groups. A singer and musicians happen to arrive at this time and present a parable which speaks to the village’s state and teaches the people about the community they are a part of. The Caucasian Chalk Circle is a play about the complexities of making decisions and humanity’s behavior toward their fellows. This provocative play within a play is not one to miss from the Alabama School of the Arts.
