Bio
Michael Hendrick joins the University of Mobile and Alabama School of the Arts family as a graduate of Louisiana State University and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance (Vocal Pedagogy) degree. Michael also possesses an undergraduate degree in Music Education and two graduate degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (Master’s in Vocal Performance/Artist Diploma in Opera Performance). Michael returned to higher education to earn his doctorate after an illustrious career as a full-time performing tenor soloist in opera and classical music for 27 years. Michael has performed on stages worldwide, including, but not limited to, leading roles at The Metropolitan Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Washington Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, and the National Orchestra of Spain. Having learned extensively about the challenges and complexity of the music industry, Michael has gleaned the wisdom to teach UM students how to best carry themselves with professionalism and discipline. Michael states, “I want to seek out to find students of every background and identity, to share what I have learned, as a teacher and my life’s journey in singing, with the up-and-coming diverse generation of students who can benefit from my guidance.”
